Expo Zaragoza 'Water for Life'
HLA were commissioned to make 74 films for EXPO Zaragoza in Spain. The theme of this Expo was ‘Water and Sustainable Development’ and was developed into sub themes, Water for Life being our focus. The project was to be built in an area of Spain known for its arid environment. Many famous architects including Zaha Hadid were commissioned to build stunningly modern buildings for the installations to be housed. We not only directed all the moving imagery but also designed the hanging sculptures, the water curtains, an installation of 200 transparent light tubes suspended in a evocation of rainfall. HLA produced and edited all the films in-house with our editor Justin Stokes playing a key role in the whole project. In total we produced over 4 hours of footage which explored the myriad ways that water is connected to human life. The expo ran from June to September 2008 to great acclaim.
